10 More Reasons To Go Veg.

21 Mar

Since I love telling you all why you should go vegetarian with actual facts, I figured I would tell you why this time with factual opinions 😉 Here are 10 real life, feel good reasons to go veg…

10 Fun But Real Reasons To Go Veg…

1- Because There Is Something Uplifting About  It.

Seriously, it is really nice to wake up everyday knowing that your diet has not caused any suffering to animals and has had a minimal impact on the planet.

2- Because It Puts You On ‘The Level’.

For real. You will achieve a whole other level of understanding once you go veg. Something just clicks in body, mind and soul. Once you get there you will know 🙂

3- Because It Gives You Less To Worry About.

Come on. Life is crazy enough with work,, bills, stalkers and politicians. Being vegetarian gives you less to worry about, less chance of getting sick from what you eat and face it, lots of unhealthy things are simply off the list.

4- Because You Are Worth It.

You are. I don’t even know you but your reading this blog so automatically you are cool and deserve to be a vegetarian 🙂 You own it to you to live the best lifestyle you can.

5- Because You Like To Look Good.

Face it. Veg heads look better. I can now point them out in a room full of sweaty people dancing at 2am in a loft in Toronto. True story. This guy called me out, said ..’ (he) liked my hat and that I looked like Sade.’ I said ‘Thanks, your vegetarian, right?’ He said ‘Yup’ and didn’t even ask me how I knew, we had the karmic connection and plus we just ‘looked’ like vegetarians. Thin, vibrant and sparkly in the eyes.

6- Because You Like Animals.

You do. Even if you don’t know it, you do. Could you kill a cow or a pig or even a chicken? No? Well don’t feel bad cuz neither could I. This is another perfect reason to go veg.

7- Because It Tastes Better.

Honestly, I used to hate food. I fed my body with whatever garbage ‘tasted’ good and the rest was bread and butter. Now I love food and it is simply because vegetarian food is the best tasting food ever. You will have better veg chicken then you do real chicken. Trust.

8- Because You Love Planet Home.

Loving Mother Earth is only natural. So stop breaking her heart and spirit and body with your meat-eating. Save her soul, let us live a bit longer, go vegetarian.

9- Because You Want To Live A Long Health Life.

The proof is in the pudding, we live longer, lead a better quality of life and have less diseases and illnesses to look forward to. Why fear getting older? You should embrace it with a healthy attitude and a healthy lifestyle.

10- Because Being A Vegetarian Is The Coolest.

It really is. Being a vegetarian is cool, your circle of life is full of like-minded people, places and things. I only wish I was a vegetarian since birth like my nephew Wes, he is vegetarian since conception. And his brother Trent should be arriving almost any day now, he too will be vegetarian since conception. They are going to be the coolest kids ever because they will know compassion and kindness on a whole other level. And let’s face it, is there anything cuter than 2 little boys telling you they are vegetarians? I didn’t think so 🙂

    Hi,
I’m pretty sure I successfully posted a response to your blog above, but I don’t see it here. If you removed it, please do me the favor of replying to explain your reasoning.
    Thanks,

      Hi Melissa,
A friend of mine recently connected me to your blog site. I too am a vegetarian. I came into the lifestyle more than a dozen years ago, while living and working at a Zen center/organic farm. I feel there are many positive aspects to lifestyles with low or no meat consumption and—like you—I’m interested in making sure people understand those aspects. At the same time as being a vegetarian, I’m also a person who tries to avoid dogma. With that in mind, I’d like to address a few points in your post above.

Your Intro-You begin by writing, “Since I love telling you all why you should go vegetarian with actual facts, I figured I would tell you why this time with factual opinions ;)”—“factual opinions” sounds like something out of the Bush/Cheney years, (though they didn’t use emoticons:).

1-Because There Is Something Uplifting About It—“it is really nice to wake up everyday knowing that your diet has not caused any suffering to animals”: As mentioned, I’ve worked on an organic farm. In order to ensure the nitrogen-phosphorous-potassium balance of their soil, organic farms use blood meal (dried blood), bone meal (ground up animal bones), and fish kill (fishery by-product). The alternative is “modern agriculture,” which uses petro-chemicals. These kill animals in a more indirect way. Either way, animals die when you and I eat our vegetables.

2- Because It Puts You On ‘The Level’—“Something just clicks in body, mind and soul. Once you get there you will know :)”: After a dozen years at it, I don’t feel like I’m on another level. Just another human being on the path.

3&4- Because It Gives You Less To Worry About&Because You Are Worth It—Indeed.

5- Because You Like To Look Good—“Face it. Veg heads look better”: As mentioned I became a vegetarian when working at an organic farm/Zen center. The center was filled with lovely vegetarians, most of whom had fairly-to-very active daily lives and many of whom were lovely, frumpy, un-thin, vegetarians. I’ve met many of the same type in the subsequent years, so I’m not sure where you’re drawing your conclusion from (perhaps from Reason #10—hanging out with like-minded individuals?).
It is also interesting that you would mention Sade at the same time as mentioning how people “just look” like vegetarians—according to this article ( http://globalfusionproductions.com/fbl/the-new-sade-a-meat-eating-ex-vegetarian-who-is-afraid-of-rappers/ ) Sade has this to say of her former vegetarianism:
“I hate to say this,” she intones in the warm, husky voice beloved by her fans for the last 25 years, “but when I saw these lambs gamboling through the field and I started to salivate and I thought I should get to the tandoori shop quick before I pull a leg off one of the lambs. It’s weird. I just thought the natural thing to do right now was to eat meat. I went through the whole veggie period thinking that was a good thing, and maybe it was for that time.”

6- Because You Like Animals—“Could you kill a cow or a pig or even a chicken? No? Well don’t feel bad cuz neither could I”: See #1. Even as a vegetarian, you are still intimately involved with the circle of living and dying.

7- Because It Tastes Better—It is amazing how many people out there conflate “vegetarianism” with “eating tofu.” Thanks for your work in expanding people’s horizons!

8&9- Because You Love Planet Home—Indeed. Good points to review.

10- Because Being A Vegetarian Is The Coolest—“Being a vegetarian is cool, your circle of life is full of like-minded people, places and things …and let’s face it, is there anything cuter than 2 little boys telling you they are vegetarians? I didn’t think so :)”: The Taliban, neo-Nazis, pick-your-favorite-political-party-or-religion, also offer some great opportunities to hang out with like-minded people. I think there is nothing cuter than a kid—or an adult—telling me that they are a fan of hearing lots of ideas and coming to their own conclusions. Like-mindedness is overrated–I’d encourage diversity of minds (shout out to my friend Peter who passed this blog along!).

Thanks for making the time to review my response Melissa. In general in life, I’m less interested in what a person believes than in how s/he has arrived at that thought. I hope that some of my comments above might help all of us vegetarians in considering how and why we have made the choice we have. And it is my hope that through that process of consideration we all arrive at a place that is more compassionate for all beings—animal, human, or otherwise.

Sorry if this offended you, it was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek, more fun then facts.
I have done many posts about this lifestyle that are factual, backed by scientific research, this is obviously not one of them.
Let me state for the record, I am a VERY opened minded individual and I have been around a lot, more then I care to admit at times 😉 I am by no means encouraging people to be closed minded at all but rather to embrace others with the same outlook and learn from them. I for one happen to like breaking bread and associating with like minds. After 32 years of feeling out of place I guess it is nice to have a conversation with people who understand you instead of argue with you or act in a condescending manner towards you due to your life choices.
And hey, don’t hate on my nephews, they are 19 months old and 1 day over due, they can’t even say vegetarian yet but when they can it sure as hell will be super cute 😉 I can guarantee they will also have more to bring to the conversation then that. Sorry I cannot contain my excitement about seeing 2 children being raised as vegetarian, I have never encountered it before and I am very curious to see how this helps mold them into the people they become.
I guess you can argue everything I said because it is opinion but if you do look behind those opinions there are facts. Research shows vegetarians live longer, have better skin, less disease and cause less negative environmental impact. Even if being a vegetarian is not perfect and does cause some harm, it sure has hell does not come remotely close to the harm eating meat does. And at the end of the day, we are not ingesting dead animals and that is the whole issue right there. Spiritually, in a health sense and in an environmental sense.
        Thank you for commenting.

I didn’t remove anything, I have to approve comments if they are not from a fellow blogger, they don’t just show up apparently. Your comment could have easily ended up in the spam folder as many of them do.
