Sweet Earth Santa Fe Veggie Burgers.

22 Dec

111

To put it simply, there are A LOT of REALLY good veggie burgers on the market these days. Everything I have tried over the past couple of years has been a home run. From soy free to grain based, there are just so many options these days and I am loving them all ๐Ÿ™‚

So with all that said, let’s talk about Sweet Earth and their Santa Fe Veggie Burger. Top Notch. If you are into the whole ‘Santa Fe’ thing, this will be your joint.

Made with black beans, sweet potatoes, green chili’s and flax seeds, this burger is .25 pound and it offers up an impressive 17 grams of protein. Those ingredients are rounded off with a ton of spices and some quinoa, barley and brown rice for good measure.

Add to all that these are non-gmo, have 6 grams of fiber, 70 % of daily Vitamin A needs, 25% of daily Vitamin C needs, 15% of daily Iron and 6% of daily calcium. Not bad for a bunch of plants. All this health clocks in at 230 glorious calories. Cholesterol free too boot.

I have seen these in the frozen foods section of grocery stores as well as in the refrigerated section. So keep an eye out next time you are shopping.

Garden Of Life Raw Protein Powder.

31 Dec

gaden

This stuff is GOOD. I go through plant-based protein powders like crazy over here and I must say this Garden of Life really surprised me with not only its ingredients list but it’s taste and mixability. The Beyond Organic Protein Formula that I used is made from raw organic sprouts and sprouted brown rice protein. With 17 grams per serving, this one is no slouch in that department either.

Not only is this stuff raw and organic, it is also dairy free, soy free, non-gmo vegan and gluten-free. The sprout protein it contains comes from Amaranth Sprouts, Quinoa Sprouts, Millet Sprouts, Buckwheat Sprouts, Garbanzo Bean Sprouts, Lentil Sprouts, Adzuki Bean Sprouts, Flax Seed Sprouts, Sunflower Seed Sprouts, Pumpkin Seed Sprouts, Chia Seed Sprouts and Sesame Seed Sprouts.

Since all of the ingredients have been allowed to sprout, the nutrition profile is super versatile and well-rounded. Not only high in protein, you are also getting Live Probiotics, Bioactive Enzymes, Glucomannan, Glutathione, Lipoic Acid, Essential Trace Minerals, Glutamine, CoQ10 to name a few. Those are all things we need to build lean muscle and some plant-based protein powders do not bring them to the table.

Add to all that good stuff that there is nothing artificial or preserved about Garden of Life Raw Protein. And as a company they buy 100% Certified Renewable Energy.

Good stuff all around ๐Ÿ™‚

The ‘World’s Best’ Veggie Burger By Hilary’s Eat Well.

15 Dec

hil

The longer I am veg and the deeper I get into it, the more I become obsessed with ‘grain’ based veggie burgers. I never liked ground beef so something emulating that really does not do it for me these days. Those 2 things combined make my love for The ‘World’s Best ‘Veggie Burger even deeper.

With a base of millet and quinoa, rounded off with some sweet potato and spices, Hilary’s Eat Well has struck gold with their veggie burger recipe. It is a truly unique recipe that tastes unlike any other veggie burger I have sampled. Crunchy on the outside yet not hockey puck like on the inside, these burgers can be toasted in the toaster for about 3 minutes or pan fry for 6. A very quick and easy eat, if you ask me.

Clocking in at 200 calories, The ‘World’s Best’ Veggie Burger also offers up 4 grams of fiber, 4 grams of protein, as well as a good amount of both Iron and Vitamin A. These burgers are free of gluten, dairy, eggs, soy, nuts, yeast and corn making all major allergies a non-issue. Add to the fact they are Certified Vegan and Non Gmo Verified.

Now lastly, we must touch upon their packaging. They come in packs of 2, no box, no nonsense just a bio-degradable bag by EarthAware who we just happened to blog about last month. So we can round it up by saying, no meat, no mess and no trash, are all parts of The ‘World’s Best’ Veggie Burger ๐Ÿ˜‰

365 Breaded Chickenless Patties.

Whole Foods is like an adult toy store, especially for veg heads. They have so many things that other stores do not, it simply sets them apart from the pack. Their own brand, 365, seems to be following suit by introducing their line of faux chicken patties and nuggets minus the soy. That is right, these vegan patties and nuggets are soy free, cholesterol free, high in protein and made with wheat as their protein source. Did I mention they taste amazing as well?

With all of the hoopla surrounding soy it is important that we have an alternative to it for our mock products. Wheat protein is not as complete as soy but is still a great, vegan source of protein. When it comes to 365 Chickenless Patties, they have 11 grams of protein per patty, so as you can see, wheat protein is not too shabby. Easy to make, these little joints only take 20 minutes in the oven, they can be served on a bun with all the fixings or they can easily be eaten alone or on a salad.

Anyway you slice it, being a veg head has never been easier. They are so many new products on the market that make eating quickly, easily and healthily, no sweat. So next time you are at Whole Foods, head to the frozen section and grab a bag of these chickenless patties, you will not regret it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Four Turkey Alternatives To Give Thanks For.

20 Nov

Since this Thanksgiving I know ALL of you are going veg, I figured I would toss out some delicious turkey alternatives that will make you, your family and all the turkey’s of the world, very happy. Here are the most popular turkey alternatives I know about. Also keep this in mind, many vegetarian restaurants offer a faux turkey meal situation that you can pick up on Thanksgiving or even the day before. I know here in NJ, Loving Hut in Ledgewood and all 3 Veggie Heaven locations are baking up faux birds for the masses. Just some food for thought ๐Ÿ™‚

First off, we have the classic Tofurky. Tofurky is a soy alternative to eating a dead bird. Besides the basic Tofurky, they also offer a whole vegetarian spread which includes 1 Tofurkey roast made with non-gmo soy, Savory Giblet Gravy, Wild Rice, Whole Wheat Bread Crumb Stuffing, Tofurkyยฎ Jurky Wishstix, Organic Chocolate Cake from Amy’s Kitchen (this is a new addition) and Happy Tofurky Day card & coupons. Each feast is 100% vegan, cooks in about an hour and serves 6.

Next up, the Gardein Holiday Roast. This veg roast serves 8 and is a soy and wheat gluten based protein. Vegan friendly, it also comes with home style gravy and a wild rice, cranberry stuffing. Gardein also does not use gmo-soy and their feast is also all natural.

Now for something totally soy free, we have the Field Roast which is a grain ‘meat’. This alternative is also all natural, stuffed with Field Roast ‘sausage’, crystallized ginger, cranberries and apples all wrapped in a savory puff pastry.

We also have a ‘Celebration Roast’ that too comes from Field Roast. This grain based roast has sausage-style stuffing made from Field Roast grain meat, fresh cut butternut squash, mushrooms and granny smith apples seasoned with a blend of rosemary, thyme and sage. We then surround the stuffing with our most luxuriant grain meat seasoned with rubbed sage, garlic and lemon juice.

Quorn Garlic & Herb Chik’n Cutlets.

14 Nov

As with all things in life, I am super picky about my faux meats. I find the Quorn makes some of the best ones but unfortunately they are not vegan, but only vegetarian. The texture and taste of all of their products are some of the best in the game, so of course their Garlic & Herb Chick’n Cutlets follow suit.

This is probably one of the best mock products I ever had. All around I thought it was great, the taste, texture and consistency. The breading was nice, with a great taste and of course they are super easy to make. 25 minutes in the oven and you have dinner. There is only 210 calories per serving and with that you get 14 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber.

As stated the only downfall of this delicious product is that it is not vegan but Quorn has gotten on the vegan train, so I suspect we will see these in vegan form in the near future. As with all Quorn products, they are soy free and all natural. Peep them below…

Chick Pz.

14 Sep

Gosh I love snacks. I am a certified snacker. I have come to realize that I don’t really eat ‘meals’ anymore, I just straight up snack the day away. My car looks like a buffet and my purse has more food in it than anything else. Finding new vegan snacks is like a passion of mine and the latest treasure is a snack called Chick Pz. Anything with a ‘Z’ is alright with me so even though chickpeas are not my favorite, except when in hummus form, I knew it was going to be on.ย  I could feel it. I grabbed the Chai Vanilla one since I figured that is a hard flavor to go wrong with.

Each bag is 2 servings but you can eat the whole thing for 220 calories plus your are just munching on naturally roasted, flavored chickpeas so this is a snack that is actually good for you. As we know chickpeas are high in protein and fiber as well as rich in folate, magnesium and iron, so snack on. Anyways the most important part of the snack is it’s taste because even if it’s good for you but the taste sucks, the whats the friggin point? With Chick Pz this is not as issue. These little guys are super tasty and crunchy. I have no doubt that almost everyone who tries them will love them. This is the best thing since hummus to happen to chickpeas, in my humble opinion.

Best part is Chick Pz fit into many different diets and lifestyles. Being free of gluten, soy, dairy and nuts makes them a healthy snack for the masses ๐Ÿ˜‰
