Earth Science.

10 Dec

Earth Science came on my radar a couple of months ago when I gifted a bottle of their Olive Oil and Avocado Hair Masque by the lovely woman who straightens and cuts my hair.

She is older and old school so I knew it was going to be a good product. But I was not prepared for how well my hair took to it. No residue, no harsh smell, nothing weighing my hair down. All around, all good.

Like my skin and my taste buds, my hair is picky. It happens to adore this hair masque and since it’s all natural, paraben free and not tested on animals, I have a feeling it is something I will be keeping around.

For over 30 years this still family owned business has been churning out high quality, cruelty free beauty care. I can’t stay I have much experience with this brand outside of this specific product I am currently using but natural and cruelty free are good enough reasons for me to share their 4-1-1 with you all.

Redmond Clay.

13 Nov

Redmond Clay is kind of a crazy thing. An O.G. thing to be exact.

Native American type O.G.

Full of trace minerals, Redmond Clay can be digested as a nutritional supplement or it can be used as a facial mask or even used to cure rashes and bug bits.

I am personally OBSESSED with Redmond Clay. No I do not eat it but I have used it to cure a rash that nothing else could manage to make better.

I have used it on bug bites.

And at this current moment, I am using it as a facial mask. Just 10 minutes and you have clear, glowing skin.

It comes in powder form so to turn it into a facial mask or a paste just add water.

I make a bunch at once then store it in a Ziplock bag in the fridge. Just taking it out when it I want to use some. I find it is easy to spread on the skin when it is cold and premixed.

Learn all about Redmond Clay and it’s million uses below.

Mill Creek Botanicals.

9 Nov

Mill Creek Botanicals is a line of natural, cruelty-free, bath and beauty products. Since 1975 Mill Creek has been using only the finest, high quality ingredients for their formulas. By relying on nature, Mill Creek makes products that are effective, wholesome and organic.

They offer up products for hair, skin, bath and body and even baby care. I have been using their aloe vera based lotion as a hand cream for the past month and I love it. The smell maybe my favorite part, very fresh and clean but yet a bit sweet. Just how I like it. The cream has a great absorbancy and it keeps my hands moisturized through out the night.

Their website does not give me many clues as to where one can buy their products but I can say that I came across them at Vitamin Shoppe. And I have seen them at some GNC’s and if all else fails, they can always been found on Amazon.

Juice Beauty.

13 Oct

Nothing beats natural, organic skin care.  I am not even joking around. I was tardy to the party by like 5 years to the natural way of keeping my skin supple and it pisses me off at times. All those years and all that money wasted on parabans and marketing techniques. Yuck. Shame on me. But oh well, better late than never, right?

As time goes on and we start to connect the dots, more and more natural beauty lines are coming to the market. And with natural usually comes cruelty-free and vegan which makes it all the better. Juice Beauty is one of these magnificent lines that uses nature to erase your lines. Not only are their products all natural they are also organic. Chock full antioxidants, Juice Beauty understands that the skin is like a sponge, it absorbs it all that is why their use a juice base. Not water. Juice. Very cool, very innovate and very smart.

Besides the top-notch ingredients and recipes they use to make their products, they also go about their business in an Eco-friendly way. Juice Beauty uses soy based inks, manufactures with solar power and uses recycled and recyclable containers. Furthermore, by using the best organic ingredients, Juice Beauty in turn also supports USDA certified organic farmers.

So see it’s all good, all around 🙂

Fix Your Face: The Exfoliation Edition.

24 Mar

Exfoliating is one of the best and cheapest ways to keep your skin looking fresh and healthy. Adult skin naturally renews itself every 28 days, shedding the old nasty, dingy looking skin cells for fresh new ones. It is recommended that most adults exfoliate 1-2 times per week, of course this will all depend on the individual. I exfoliate 2x a day and I am sure many doctors would ‘red flag’ me but it works for me and who knows it may work for you. Some people can only handle every other day or even once a week. Whatever you do just be gentle to your skin, don’t pull, don’t tug and don’t rub extra hard. Your face skin is super delicate and many of those grainy scrubs can actually put small punctures in your skin if you are not careful.

Back in the in the Middle Ages, wine and tartic acid were used as an exfoliate combination. These days more common types of exfoliates are mirco-bead facial scrubs, crushed nut shell pastes, sugar based scrubs, salt based scrubs and abrasive things like loofahs and/or brushes. All of those types of exfoliates would be considered abrasive and should be used with caution by people who have super sensitive skin or acne issues. Some non abrasive types of exfoliation are chemical in nature. Those include, salicylic acid, glycolic acid and fruit enzymes. If you do choose to use a chemical form of exfoliation be sure you are using sunscreen at all times. These products will make some people’s skin sensitive and some people will have no issue. This, like many things in life is all subjective. What works for some will not work for others, it is all trial and error.

Luckily for us animal loving veg heads you can find everything I talked about above in cruelty-free forms. St. Ives just released a non-abrasive Exfoliating Pad that is full of fruit enzymes and vitamins, kind of like a mini-peel in a pad. Works like an Oxy type pad, use it twice a day and in a week you have better skin. I have seen lots of those type things popping up, be sure whatever you choose contains natural ingredients. Freeman Feeling Beautiful also makes an amazing smelling grapefruit face scrub that uses sugar as the exfoliate, it is not too harsh yet it works. I have attached a few links below to some products that are tried and true and well as some new ones, none have been tested on animals 🙂
