Seggiano Raw Basil Pesto.

21 Dec

So yeah. I don’t even really know what to say about Seggiano’s Raw Basil Pesto. Pretty much the best thing ever if pesto is your jam. I mean does it get any better than raw and vegan to begin with? Didn’t think so.

This exquisite pesto is imported from Italy and made from top notch ingredients and super special (ligurian) basil. At $10 a jar, it may seem steep but trust me, it is worth every penny. I have eaten pasta two times this week because of this pesto, I cannot get enough. It is very flavorful but not overly basil. Some pesto is just too basily and it can ruin the whole dish. No fear, there is none of that here. Nor is there any cheese as there usually is in 99% of jarred pesto sauces.

Made simply with olive oil, cashew nuts, fresh ligurian basil, sea salt and pine nuts, this pesto is the perfect topper for some fresh pasta or for a pesto pizza. Works well on sandwiches an as a dip if you so desire. There is really nothing more I can say about this pesto except it is the perfect pesto.

You can find it at Whole Foods or on Amazon, I also see it is available all over the U.K. Next time you are shopping keep your eyes open for Seggiano’s Raw Basil Pesto, your carbs and taste buds will thank you ๐Ÿ˜‰

Country Herbs.

28 Oct

The easiest way to add flavor to your food, without fat and guilt is the proper use of spices. If you are anything like me, you do not have a complete spice rack with everything you need to create the perfect dips and marinades. This is why I love Country Herbs so much, it’s like a per-measured spice cabinet in a packet. With 10 dip flavors and 3 bagel spreads to choose from you can choose your own adventure.

All natural, made with no msg, fillers or additives, Country Herbs are made to be blended into oil, yogurt or sour cream. Not mayo. They blend super easy, are packed with flavor and I can attest that they work wonderfully with vegan sour cream. I also got to try them mixed with olive oil which was a whole other experience. It really changed the game, made this product so much more versatile in my humble.

This is a small company located in NJ that I came across at a festival in Upstate NY. As far as I can tell their goods are not sold in stores yet but you can order any of their offerings right off their website below…

Recipe Time: Easiest Crispy Fried Tofu Ever.

17 Aug

Fried tofu is simple and amazing yet finding the perfect recipe seems to be a bit tricky. This recipe skips all the drama and takes us to the point, crispy tofu. For best results use extra firm tofu and press it for 15-30 minutes before cooking. I pressed for 30 minutes between plates and was good to go. If you like your tofu firm through out or if you are picky with your tofu (as I am) then cut the pieces even smaller than suggested and take it from there. This recipe is for a whole block of tofu but unless you have a few kids to feed, you will have plenty of left overs to make an easy stir fry or some veggie fried rice the next day. You can even eat it cold because yes, it is that good ๐Ÿ™‚

Easiest Crispy Fried Tofu Ever.

Age Less, Live More. Take It From A Man Who Is Living Proof…

21 May

There are some people who absolutely fascinate me and Bernando LaPallo is on the top of that list. At the age of 111, almost 112, Mr. LaPallo has had many titles in life. From dad to grandpa from chef to author, Bernando LaPallo has led a life that is full, rich and strictly vegetarian. Bernando is believed to be the worlds oldest blogger, he wrote his first book at age 107 and he says he plans on living to 125. The craziest thing about Bernando is how YOUNG he looks, I would say he looks about 70-75 years old in the video below which is from 2010. It is hard to believe this man was born is 1901.

Mr. LaPallo has always known that his health and ability to stay both physically and mentally sharp are the most important things in life. He credits his longevity to his strict vegetarian diet and he says that there are 5 particular foods he believes have led the way to his 112 year on this planet. Chocolate, garlic, olive oil, cinnamon and honey are his 5 magic foods and he believes that his consumption of honey is the reason why he has never been sick a day in his life. At 111 he still takes care of himself and even makes rare but cherished and special appearances around the country to talk about his life and how he has managed to stick around so long ๐Ÿ™‚

I find it to be absolutely amazing that this man is 111 years old and he is all with it. I have never seen anything like it in my life, I know people who are 1/3 this man’s age who are worse off. His skin has no wrinkles and he does use olive oil on his skin everyday so take note to how well that has worked out for him. He also believes in exercising everyday, that is why he walks 1.5 miles every morning without the assistance of a walker. If Bernando LaPallo is not a true testament to how a healthy diet and regular exercise can help us achieve a long healthy life, than I don’t know who is.

You can learn more about Bernando and his life in his book, ‘Age Less, Live More’. You can buy it off his website which is linked below…
