Sweet Earth Santa Fe Veggie Burgers.

22 Dec

111

To put it simply, there are A LOT of REALLY good veggie burgers on the market these days. Everything I have tried over the past couple of years has been a home run. From soy free to grain based, there are just so many options these days and I am loving them all πŸ™‚

So with all that said, let’s talk about Sweet Earth and their Santa Fe Veggie Burger. Top Notch. If you are into the whole ‘Santa Fe’ thing, this will be your joint.

Made with black beans, sweet potatoes, green chili’s and flax seeds, this burger is .25 pound and it offers up an impressive 17 grams of protein. Those ingredients are rounded off with a ton of spices and some quinoa, barley and brown rice for good measure.

Add to all that these are non-gmo, have 6 grams of fiber, 70 % of daily Vitamin A needs, 25% of daily Vitamin C needs, 15% of daily Iron and 6% of daily calcium. Not bad for a bunch of plants. All this health clocks in at 230 glorious calories. Cholesterol free too boot.

I have seen these in the frozen foods section of grocery stores as well as in the refrigerated section. So keep an eye out next time you are shopping.

True Joy Sweets.

I figure why not chat about candy today? EVERYONE loves candy and if you don’t…send me some of that will power πŸ˜‰

Today we are pimpin True Joy Sweets. All natural, vegan, non-gmo, Kosher, organic and gluten free, this candy company offers something for everyone.

I just learned about True Joy Sweets last week. I copped a box of their candy canes because for me, regular candy canes have too much garbage in them, including red coloring. I am very much against red food colorings. Not only are they usually petro or crushed bug based but they also give me an awful headache. Obviously I was psyched when I saw that True Joy uses fruit juice as the red coloring for their candy canes. Score one for this sweet toothed veg head.

Not limited to only candy canes, True Joy Sweets make fruit chews and choco chews. I have yet to see these in the flesh but when I do, you know I will be copping them.

So keep your eyes open for True Joy Sweets next time you are at your local natural grocer or your local Whole Foods. They are worth a try plus it is nice to support a small business like True Joy who on top of making organic vegan candies are also part of the 1% for the Planet organization.

Luna Burger.

Like most veg heads, I am all about veggie burgers. And like most veg heads I am super picky about my veggie burgers. Enough with the whack veggie burgers. It’s 2014 and if we want the masses to know what’s really good with a plant-based diet then we need to bring the real to the masses.

That’s pretty much what Luna Burger did. They brought the real to the masses.

I have only had ‘The Classic’ but I can safely say it was the best veggie burger I had outside of a veg restaurant. It is of total restaurant quality and I am not shocked to learn that many veg restaurants are offering Luna Burgers as their veggie burger option.

It tasted amazing, it was big, it didn’t fall apart, it was easy to cook, it fit on a basic burger bun and it was vegan. Add to all that Luna Burgers are free of corn, dairy, eggs, nuts, soy and have no added oil. They are also certified vegan and verified non-gmo.

‘The Classic’ Luna Burger is made with Black beans, spelt berries, oats, onions, carrots, kale, beets, blueberries, molasses, garlic, apple cider vinegar, salt, rosemary and black pepper. All that adds up to 6 grams of fiber, 7 grams of protein, 40% of your daily vitamin A needs, 10% of your daily iron needs, 6% of your vitamin c and 4% of your calcium all in only 160 calories and 2 grams of fat.

Made by hand in Columbus, Ohio, they only use locally sourced ingredients.

They are the real.

Pro Bar Meal.

26 Feb

I have a major soft spot for meal replacement bars. I am ‘on the go’ quite a bit and eat all day to top it off so meal replacement bars are a staple in my purse and car. Now finding a high quality, great tasting meal replacement bar is a whole other issue, and a vegan one at that? Good luck.

Well, I guess we are all in luck because Pro Bar has made a super delicious, super healthy meal replacement bar that I think most can get behind. These organic non-gmo, vegan, all natural, high fiber, high protein meal replacement bars are the ish. Chock full of good stuff like oats, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and dried fruits, the Pro Bar Meal Replacement combines a ton of natural ingredients that taste amazing and are super good for you.

Clocking in at 390 calories with 22 grams of fat , 6 grams of fiber and 10 grams of protein, these things fill you up easily and keep you full until your next feeding. They are also a great source of Iron and a good source of Calcium and Vitamin C.

You can find them at Vitamin Shoppe, Whole Foods, your local health foods store, some sporting goods stores such as REI and of course a bunch of places on-line. Read more about them below…

The ‘World’s Best’ Veggie Burger By Hilary’s Eat Well.

15 Dec

hil

The longer I am veg and the deeper I get into it, the more I become obsessed with ‘grain’ based veggie burgers. I never liked ground beef so something emulating that really does not do it for me these days. Those 2 things combined make my love for The ‘World’s Best ‘Veggie Burger even deeper.

With a base of millet and quinoa, rounded off with some sweet potato and spices, Hilary’s Eat Well has struck gold with their veggie burger recipe. It is a truly unique recipe that tastes unlike any other veggie burger I have sampled. Crunchy on the outside yet not hockey puck like on the inside, these burgers can be toasted in the toaster for about 3 minutes or pan fry for 6. A very quick and easy eat, if you ask me.

Clocking in at 200 calories, The ‘World’s Best’ Veggie Burger also offers up 4 grams of fiber, 4 grams of protein, as well as a good amount of both Iron and Vitamin A. These burgers are free of gluten, dairy, eggs, soy, nuts, yeast and corn making all major allergies a non-issue. Add to the fact they are Certified Vegan and Non Gmo Verified.

Now lastly, we must touch upon their packaging. They come in packs of 2, no box, no nonsense just a bio-degradable bag by EarthAware who we just happened to blog about last month. So we can round it up by saying, no meat, no mess and no trash, are all parts of The ‘World’s Best’ Veggie Burger πŸ˜‰

Lightlife Kickin’ Black Bean Burgers.

7 Sep

I have recently started seeing these joints in the freezer section of Shop Rite so I figured I owed them a try. Since Lightlife has yet to let me down, I knew I was going to like what they had in store for me. These frozen patties come 4 to a bag and are vegetarian not vegan since they do have egg whites and some cheese in them. The rest of the ingredients are black beans, onions, bell peppers, barley flakes and soy protein isolate to name a few. All natural made with non-gmo soy, there are only 180 calories in each burger and 14 grams of protein as well as 6 grams of fiber.

These burgers are a bit bigger then the standard veggie burger one comes across in the freezer section. They are also of better quality and taste better, these are just an all around good addition to what is currently available in the stores. The burger itself is ‘meaty’ without tasting like meat, it definitely is filling and it holds up well to cooking. I rocked it stove top so I cannot attest to its microwave or grilling capabilities.

Gardein Chipotle Lime Crispy Fingers.

24 Jul

Overall Gardein is one of the best mock meat companies. Their products are not only all natural and non-gmo but they are also certified vegan. Needless to say, I was not shocked to discover that these crispy fingers are just as good, if not better, than all of the other Gardein products I have chowed on. These chipotle lime joints are crispy and tasty. The chipotle and lime combo is unique and delicious and can be served in a wrap, over a salad or on their own on a plate.

Packed with 16 grams of protein these little guys make a great dinner addition. There are 3 servings per bag but I usually just make it 2 because I am a hungry girl and I personally eat a higher protein diet. There is also 2 grams of fiber per serving and a whopping 120% of your daily iron needs. All of this goodness in only 170 calories. How can you go wrong πŸ˜‰
