All That Jazz.

26 Nov

I don’t know about you all but here on the East Coast of the US, the Saucony Jazz is a classic sneaker that has stood the test of time. For a while in the late 90’s I swear, they were all my friends wore. There are so many colors to choose from, it’s hard to get bored or sick of them.

Besides being classic and comfortable, the Saucony Jazz Low Pro is also vegan. No leather, suede or animal parts, natural hemp and canvas upper. Nothing nasty in the adhesives used to hold the sneaks together, just all around vegan comfort. I have the black ones and I love them, they fit well, are comfortable and of course are cute looking.

You can find these kicks for sale all over the place. I know Moo Shoes in Manhattan has them, as does Saucony on line, Amazon and Zappos. The link below is to Saucony’s website, straight to the source…

New York is home to some of the best veg restaurants in the world. It is also the home of Moo Shoes, the largest vegan shoe and accessory store in the world. Sneakers, boots, heels and flats, Moo Shoes has every style of vegan footwear covered. Bags, belts, wallets and shirts are all available as well. Moo Shoes offers main stream brands such as Madden Girl and Saucony but they also hook it up with the vegan brands such as Olsen Haus and Big Buddha as well.

Moo Shoes is located on the Lower East Side in an awesome neighborhood that has tons of veg restaurants. This store is vegan owned and has been awarded many crowns by publications such as Veg News, for being awesome. They are also active in the vegan community and support all things cruelty-free. I can personally attest to the awesomeness that is Moo Shoes and all I can say is you gotta check it out for yourself.

Moo Shoes. 78 Orchard Street. New York, NY 10002. 212-254-6512. Open 7 Days. Monday-Saturday, 11:30-7:30. Sunday, 12-6.

How To Help Those Effected By Sandy.

5 Nov

So it has been 1 week since this storm wiped our coast line off the face of the Earth. Not only is the coast line gone, towns inland like Little Ferry and Manville have been totally decimated. Staten Island looks like a war zone, FEMA Aid finally arrived over the weekend but there are still millions without power and we now have this gas ration situation going on. I have seen 100’s of trucks coming into NJ from Ohio, Missouri and Michigan to help us get it together and I sincerely thank them.

If you would like to help out those who have been effected by Sandy, I have done some research to give you LEGIT places to donate food, clothing and money to. I already came across some scam sites on the net. Very sad people are trying to make a profit off this disaster. Some people here lost everything, they need the food banks and shelters. Add to that the millions of people without power who in turn cannot cook and do not have heat. Trust me, this is no pity party going on over here, we want nothing more to clean this mess up and keep it moving.

Below I have links to the Humane Society which has set up at 24 hour hot line to reunite people with their pets. There is also information about shelters that can hold people’s pets while they figure out their living situation. Red Cross is on the scene here, please consider donating to them. They are running shelters and offering medical services all over NJ and NY. And since all the shelters are full, they are obviously in need of food. I have attached a link to places in Bergen County where you can drop off food, cleaning supplies, paper goods and other items. Lastly, Feeding America is collecting food and water to bring to this area, so far they have already hauled 73 truckloads of food to those effected in these parts.

Thanks for reading and we will be back to ‘normal’ (whatever the heck that is) tomorrow πŸ™‚

MANIC PANIC.

23 Sep

Manic Panic is simply a classic company. People swear by Manic Panic to get the rich and bright hair colors they crave and others of us use it on our face, toes and nails. Anyway you look at it supporting a company like Manic Panic, is a good thing. Started back in 1977 on good old St. Marks in Manhattan, this revolutionary company brought a little bit of punk, rock and glamor to the masses. With only a $500 dollar loan from their mom, Tish and Snooky were determined to make it happen and they did. Here I am 35 years later blogging about them πŸ˜‰

Manic Panic no longer has a store on St. Marks, they have since moved to Long Island City, Queens and have also opened a second store on Melrose Ave in Hollywood. Manic Panic has remained true to their no animal testing and no animal ingredients policy. They are also involved in many good causes that help both people and animals. Combine those facts with the fact that they make absolutely wonderful cosmetics and you have a force to be reckoned with. If you can’t get to their retail locations you can order whatever you fancy right off their site below…

Plastic Bag Ban Out On The Island.

28 Feb
Dodgy iPhone out-of-plane-window shot of one u...

The ‘Island’ I am referring to would be Long Island. If you are from these parts and you ask someone where they are from and they respond ‘Out On The Island’ they usually mean Long Island aka Strong Island. Yeah I said it, even though I feel there is an unspoken beef between Jersey and Long Island I still got love for it. My pops is from there and all in all its just like another Jersey on the other side of the city. We got everything they got out there from malls and traffic to beaches and bad attitudes. Jersey and Long Island are one in the same, except Long Island is pulling ahead with the extra points they get for banning plastic bags in the Village of Southampton. Score one for Strong Island πŸ˜‰

Since Long Island is well….an island, it is very important for them to get the plastic bags they hell outta dodge. We all know that plastic bags are a huge killer of marine life and polluter of the trees and water. They don’t biodegrade and they just suck. Southampton knows this and this is why they have been banned since late last year. Fines up to $1000 will be doled out to those who choose not to cooperate with their plan. Those of you who know these parts know that the law around here does not play when it comes to gettin money. That is all they want and they will get it no matter what. So if you don’t know these parts and plan on visiting them, plan on leaving the plastic bags at home or you will be whipping out another type of plastic, if you know what I mean.

Southampton is a small village of 55,000 people on an island ofΒ  almost 8 million people. Imagine the impact this ban would have if it was enforced throughout the island?
