Bold Organics Vegan Cheese Pizza.

29 Nov

I LOVE pizza. Adore it. But I have never loved or adored cheese. And now a days cheese does not like me either. So we have parted ways for the most part.

But frozen pizza is just so easy and I missed it. I tried many others but nothing ever really did it for me.

Until I was suggested Bold.

We have a winner.

Dairy free, egg free and gluten free. This pizza is also small and expensive but in the not-so-tasty world of frozen vegan pizza, it takes the cake.

The sauce is excellent, the crust is thin and the soy based cheese does not over take the rest of the pizza.

If you can find it, at least try it once, it’s worth every penny.

Luna Burger.

16 Nov

Like most veg heads, I am all about veggie burgers. And like most veg heads I am super picky about my veggie burgers. Enough with the whack veggie burgers. It’s 2014 and if we want the masses to know what’s really good with a plant-based diet then we need to bring the real to the masses.

That’s pretty much what Luna Burger did. They brought the real to the masses.

I have only had ‘The Classic’ but I can safely say it was the best veggie burger I had outside of a veg restaurant. It is of total restaurant quality and I am not shocked to learn that many veg restaurants are offering Luna Burgers as their veggie burger option.

It tasted amazing, it was big, it didn’t fall apart, it was easy to cook, it fit on a basic burger bun and it was vegan. Add to all that Luna Burgers are free of corn, dairy, eggs, nuts, soy and have no added oil. They are also certified vegan and verified non-gmo.

‘The Classic’ Luna Burger is made with Black beans, spelt berries, oats, onions, carrots, kale, beets, blueberries, molasses, garlic, apple cider vinegar, salt, rosemary and black pepper. All that adds up to 6 grams of fiber, 7 grams of protein, 40% of your daily vitamin A needs, 10% of your daily iron needs, 6% of your vitamin c and 4% of your calcium all in only 160 calories and 2 grams of fat.

Made by hand in Columbus, Ohio, they only use locally sourced ingredients.

They are the real.

Victoria Vegan.

Sometimes amazing things happen in the food world. Take for instance, your favorite pasta sauce company starting a vegan line of pasta sauces. If you’re a pasta lover please tell me, does it get any better than that? Didn’t think so πŸ™‚

Personally, I think Victoria makes the best packaged pasta sauce. I have tried them all and I constantly come back to Victoria. Sure I make my own when I feel like it and when I have the time but let’s face it, most of us are not standing around in an apron stirring the sauce for 8 hours to be sure it does not stick to the sides of the pot. Well at least I know, I’m not.

So once one corners the market of delicious ready to use pasta sauce what does one do? How does, start a vegan line to thank all of their loyal veg head customers sound? That is precisely what Victoria did, they took note to the fact that not only do they have many vegan customers but to the fact that veganism is the new black. And if you can’t beat it then you may as well join it.

With delicious offerings such as vodka and Alfredo sauces, Victoria Vegan has made sure that those who eat veg, never have to miss out on a delicious, comforting, warm bowl of pasta laden with a ‘cream’ based sauce. They have replaced the butter and cream with soy and honestly, you cannot tell the difference. Their vodka sauce mixed with some upper tier penne literally tastes like something I have eaten in one of the many creme de le creme of Italian restaurants we have here on the East Coast.

When it comes to finding Victoria Vegan, things can get tricky. I have yet to see it carried at a major aka chain supermarket, I came across my jar at a small organic, specialty store. I know you can also order it on-line, below is the link to their site, you can get all the 4-1-1 I left out, over there…

Garden Of Life Raw Protein Powder.

31 Dec

This stuff is GOOD. I go through plant-based protein powders like crazy over here and I must say this Garden of Life really surprised me with not only its ingredients list but it’s taste and mixability. The Beyond Organic Protein Formula that I used is made from raw organic sprouts and sprouted brown rice protein. With 17 grams per serving, this one is no slouch in that department either.

Not only is this stuff raw and organic, it is also dairy free, soy free, non-gmo vegan and gluten-free. The sprout protein it contains comes from Amaranth Sprouts, Quinoa Sprouts, Millet Sprouts, Buckwheat Sprouts, Garbanzo Bean Sprouts, Lentil Sprouts, Adzuki Bean Sprouts, Flax Seed Sprouts, Sunflower Seed Sprouts, Pumpkin Seed Sprouts, Chia Seed Sprouts and Sesame Seed Sprouts.

Since all of the ingredients have been allowed to sprout, the nutrition profile is super versatile and well-rounded. Not only high in protein, you are also getting Live Probiotics, Bioactive Enzymes, Glucomannan, Glutathione, Lipoic Acid, Essential Trace Minerals, Glutamine, CoQ10 to name a few. Those are all things we need to build lean muscle and some plant-based protein powders do not bring them to the table.

Add to all that good stuff that there is nothing artificial or preserved about Garden of Life Raw Protein. And as a company they buy 100% Certified Renewable Energy.

Good stuff all around πŸ™‚

The ‘World’s Best’ Veggie Burger By Hilary’s Eat Well.

15 Dec

The longer I am veg and the deeper I get into it, the more I become obsessed with ‘grain’ based veggie burgers. I never liked ground beef so something emulating that really does not do it for me these days. Those 2 things combined make my love for The ‘World’s Best ‘Veggie Burger even deeper.

With a base of millet and quinoa, rounded off with some sweet potato and spices, Hilary’s Eat Well has struck gold with their veggie burger recipe. It is a truly unique recipe that tastes unlike any other veggie burger I have sampled. Crunchy on the outside yet not hockey puck like on the inside, these burgers can be toasted in the toaster for about 3 minutes or pan fry for 6. A very quick and easy eat, if you ask me.

Clocking in at 200 calories, The ‘World’s Best’ Veggie Burger also offers up 4 grams of fiber, 4 grams of protein, as well as a good amount of both Iron and Vitamin A. These burgers are free of gluten, dairy, eggs, soy, nuts, yeast and corn making all major allergies a non-issue. Add to the fact they are Certified Vegan and Non Gmo Verified.

Now lastly, we must touch upon their packaging. They come in packs of 2, no box, no nonsense just a bio-degradable bag by EarthAware who we just happened to blog about last month. So we can round it up by saying, no meat, no mess and no trash, are all parts of The ‘World’s Best’ Veggie Burger πŸ˜‰

Brad’s Raw Leafy Kale.

10 Dec

There are kale chips and then there are Brad’s kale chips. That pretty much sums up how I feel about this product. Delicious. Delicious and Delicious. I could eat the whole package in one sitting if I was not paying attention. Not baked, nor fried, these little guys pack a punch of health and crunch and of course they are vegan πŸ˜‰

With crazy good flavors such as Natural Nacho and Nasty Hot, Brad has a kale chip for every palate. Gluten Free, Nut Free and all natural, Brad’s kale chips are dehydrated below 115 degrees to preserve all the natural goodness that kale has to offer. There is really no way one could not enjoy these chips, they are that good.

I have bought them at both Whole Foods and Kings so I can say for sure they sell them there. I was at Whole Foods Friday night and they were actually sampling these joints right in the front of the store. Go Brad!!!
