How To Help Those Effected By Sandy.

5 Nov

So it has been 1 week since this storm wiped our coast line off the face of the Earth. Not only is the coast line gone, towns inland like Little Ferry and Manville have been totally decimated. Staten Island looks like a war zone, FEMA Aid finally arrived over the weekend but there are still millions without power and we now have this gas ration situation going on. I have seen 100’s of trucks coming into NJ from Ohio, Missouri and Michigan to help us get it together and I sincerely thank them.

If you would like to help out those who have been effected by Sandy, I have done some research to give you LEGIT places to donate food, clothing and money to. I already came across some scam sites on the net. Very sad people are trying to make a profit off this disaster. Some people here lost everything, they need the food banks and shelters. Add to that the millions of people without power who in turn cannot cook and do not have heat. Trust me, this is no pity party going on over here, we want nothing more to clean this mess up and keep it moving.

Below I have links to the Humane Society which has set up at 24 hour hot line to reunite people with their pets. There is also information about shelters that can hold people’s pets while they figure out their living situation. Red Cross is on the scene here, please consider donating to them. They are running shelters and offering medical services all over NJ and NY. And since all the shelters are full, they are obviously in need of food. I have attached a link to places in Bergen County where you can drop off food, cleaning supplies, paper goods and other items. Lastly, Feeding America is collecting food and water to bring to this area, so far they have already hauled 73 truckloads of food to those effected in these parts.

Thanks for reading and we will be back to ‘normal’ (whatever the heck that is) tomorrow πŸ™‚

Exercise For Better Skin.

Get Good Skin...

Since your skin is the largest organ in your body, it should go without saying that exercise will improve this too. But it seems kind of odd, right? It’s not like your skin is lifting weights or pounding the treadmill. Or is it? Who knows. What we do know is that working out indeed provides tremendous benefits to our skin. Since regular exercise promotes better circulation and blood flow, this in turn makes your skin more healthy and vibrant. As your blood runs through your body it carries oxygen to all the cells that are busting their humps to keep you alive and well, this includes your precious skin cells. On top of delivering the oxygen, your blood also carries away all the nasty waste products that accumulate in our bodies. Pollutants, free radicals and chemicals are all carried away from the hard-working cells by the hard-working blood. This is why we have to take care of our bodies, they are hard-working, complex machines.

Exercise has also been proven over and over to reduce stress. As we all know, stress, is one of the reasons why our skin acts up. Stress leads to lack of sleep and poor eating choices both of which lead to bad skin. I know every time I get a crappy nights sleep my skin suffers, it is truly disturbing how awful my face looks when I do not sleep well. In studies involving people with stress related skin conditions such as acne and eczema, it shows that a reduction in stress due to regular exercise causes a much lesser presence of these conditions. This may sound crazy because for so many years we were told sweating would give us pimples, turns out those people were wrong. When it comes to lifting weights, the actual act of lifting does not improve your skin but by adding muscle you also help the skin appear more firm. This is important because as time goes on we all start to sag but the more muscle you add now, the less you will sag later. If that is not a good enough reason to start working out then I don’t know what is πŸ˜‰
