Dear ‘Ethical Meat Eater’, Just Stop It.

12 Dec

Dear ‘Ethical’ Meat Eater,

Does it matter if the dead animal you are eating was factory farmed or free range?

What you are eating is DEAD. No matter how it was raised it was KILLED. So you could EAT IT.

Does that dead piece of bloody flesh care whether it got to graze in a friggin field or whether it was abused in a factory farm?

That animal is already dead cuz of your blood lust so if you think you are all ‘ethical’ cuz it WAS ‘free range’…

Stay Chizzle,

If you have ever vacationed in the Caribbean and ventured out of the beautiful resort areas you probably have seen the completely heart breaking sights of starving, abused and homeless animals.

I have experienced this all too often. My last trip to Mexico I found myself in the outskirts of Playa Del Carmen trying to get food for a starving dog I saw dying under a car. I ran around like a nut job and ended up in a shit hole Bodega scooping up mad cans of wet dog food as the locals looked at me like some ‘Senora Loca’.

Another time while in Monterrey I was taking an early morning walk and met a homeless, sick starving Chihuahua. We kicked it for hours, I brought him back to my hotel so I could feed him. I didn’t bring him inside just into the parking lot and I was asked to remove him at once. It was heart breaking. I cried for months over, Alto, that is what I named him.

I have seen the same awful sights in Dominican Republic and Jamaica and lots of other travelers have as well. So they decided to do something about it so together they started CANDi. A volunteer based animal rescue group founded and run by tourists, travelers and animal lovers that aims to clean up the stay dog/cat problem in these Caribbean nations.

This is something that is long overdue. It is wonderful and I could not be happier but it is long overdue. Americans fail to realize how impoverished these countries really are. All most of us see are the fancy resorts and the pretty beaches when in reality, the reality of these islands is nothing like that.

So yes, as a tourist and as a traveler I do feel that it is our job to help those animals in need.

Because turning a blind eye is not only wrong it is immoral. Because we are using their country for leisure even though the majority of their population couldn’t afford leisure if we bought it for them. Because when we benefit from something, it is our duty and honor to pay it forward.

Tell The USFDA It Is Time To Ban Animal Testing…

9 Jan

If you are against animal testing for cosmetics then you must click on the link below.

The link will take you to The Petition Site where you can add your name to the petition being sent to the United States Food and Drug Administration. This petition is to stop animal testing for cosmetics here in the US. As many of us may know, the European Union has already taken this step as did Israel.

It is imperative we make this happen now because animal testing is not only cruel but it is unnecessary. We have way more technology then we used to so any excuse to test on animals is now futile.

Mexico City To Slap Animal Abusers With Prison Time.

2 Jan

Happy New Year Everyone 🙂

Let’s start this year with some good news coming out of Mexico, shall we?

I was super happy when I came across this because I love Mexico and I love animals. Mexico gets trashed here in The States because of this whole, ‘War On Drugs’ situation. But in actuality, Mexico is a vibrant, colorful country full of beautifully warm, hospitable people. Rich in tradition, culture and heritage, Mexico truly is an amazing country and Mexico City is truly an awesome city.

Adding to the awesomeness is the fact that Mexico City’s law makers have recently approved prison terms for those who choose to abuse animals. Prior to this, animal cruelty was considered a civil offense so there was no jail time just a fine. This new law was voted in unanimously by the legislature assembly, everyone agreed that the current administrative laws do not do enough to help end animal cruelty.

Animal abusers will now get up to 2 years in prison and a $500 fine, if they kill the animal they will get up to 4 years in prison and a $2000 fine. In addition to animal cruelty, they also addressed animals that are killed for food. In the later instance, the animal must be killed quickly, in a painless fashion.

Kind Gift Idea: The WWF Gift Catalog.

3 Dec

Does anyone else remember when W.W.F stood for ‘World Wresting Federation’? My goodness those were the days, chase some W.W.F with a bit of G.L.O.W. and it was the perfect 80’s Sunday after church 😉

The W.W.F. were dishin’ about today is the World Wildlife Federation. Not a small group by any means, the W.W.F. works hard to help, conserve and save the animals that inhabit this wonderful planet. Lucky for us who partake in the Holiday festivities, WWF offers super cute gift packages that help different animals at different levels. You can spend anywhere from $25 to $1000’s but most gift sets run $25, $50 and $100. This was my ‘go-to’ for Holiday Gifts last year. I ‘adopted’ an animal for every kid on my list last Holiday Season. I went this route instead of running around like crazy to buy them stuff they did’t need.

Options vary but most packages come with a picture of the animal you adopt, a certificate of adoption and a bit of info about the animals and why they need our help. Chimps, dolphins, big cats, primates even fish and sea life are available, there is truly an animal for everyone in this catalog. You can also ‘build your own bucket’ as a gift, so you can include all of your receiver’s favorite animals if you so desire.

Personally, I like giving stuff like this as gifts. Not only is it a good cause but it is educational. It is important for children to know about the animals that we live among and how they need to be cared for and looked after. If you are not into the Holidays, you can still donate, join and help WWF.

Mount Pleasant Animal Shelter.

10 Oct

The Mount Pleasant Animal Shelter is located in East Hanover, NJ. It is a non-for profit, privately funded shelter that does not euthanize any animal due to ‘over crowding’. Mount Pleasant Animal Shelter is active in the local community where they push their messages of spay/neuter, adoption and of course putting an end to the homeless pets situation.

They have many animals for adoption at the shelter and they are open 7 days a week for adoptions. If you are looking for a specific breed of dog they will find it for you. You can adopt any type of dog these days, no need to go to a breeder, everything is for adoption now, it is not like it used to be. Mount Pleasant also hosts fund raisers and other events to help their shelter but donations are always welcome.

You can check their website for events, adoptable pets and other information.

FRAME stands for the Fund to Replace Animals in Medical Experiments, they are a U.K. based organization who fights for our furry friends who are brutally tested on by the medical community. FRAME is dedicated to finding alternative methods to animal testing for science, education and medicine. As we all know millions of our furry friends are killed and maimed annually, this is why supporting company’s that do not test on animals is sooo important.

FRAME stands by the 3 R’s. Replacement. Reduction. Refinement. Their long term goal of ending all animal testing is only possible by research and acceptance. Companies need to be open to finding human replacements for animals and FRAME not only tells them this but comes up with the alternative methods.
