Achieving Toned Abs on a Busy Schedule

Even some of the most avid exercise enthusiasts struggle to lose the fat around their midsection. Belly fat typically fights to stay on the body longer than any other type of body fat. You may have carved out a portion of your daily schedule for a run or other type of exercise, but can’t seem to find enough time to hit those core muscles. The good news is that you don’t have to spend hours working on losing belly fat and toning your stomach muscles. There are several exercise techniques that you can perform throughout your day, in the midst of other daily activities, that will result in a toned stomach.

Morning Cup of Stomach Crunches

If you are like many people, it may take you a while to amp up your energy levels in the morning. A great way to kick-start your day into action is to perform a set of crunches. To perform a basic crunch, follow these steps:

  1. Lie on your back (use a yoga mat or other supportive, yet comfortable surface). Bend your knees while keeping your feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart.
  2. Place your hands behind your head without lacing your fingers together. Your elbows should be out to the side but lifted up slightly.
  3. Leaving a few inches between your chest and your chin, tilt your chin slightly.
  4. Gently tighten your abs while curling upward and forward.
  5. Once your shoulder blades, neck, and head lift off the floor, hold this position for a second before gently lowering back to the floor.
  6. Perform 10-12 reps, followed by 2 additional sets of stomach crunches.

This exercise will only take you about 5 minutes to perform in the morning. If you make this a regular part of your morning routine, you are sure to notice a dramatic difference in the strength and appearance of your abdominal area.

Stomach Exercises to Perform While Stuck in a Chair

People with desk jobs spend hours at a time using very few of their muscles. If you work a desk job, it’s important to get up now and again even if it’s just for a short walk around the office. You can also work on toning your stomach muscles right at your desk. Whether you are sitting at a desk or at home on the couch, stomach toning exercises can be performed without getting up. All you have to do is tighten your abdominal muscles and then lift your feet up, either with straight or bent legs. Anytime you get an extra moment at work, perform a few of these very effective sitting stomach crunches.

Walking and Sitting Your Way to a Toned Stomach

When walking around your home, to your car, at the office, or anywhere else, stay conscious of your posture and your stomach muscles. As you walk, straighten your posture and tighten your abs. You can also keep your stomach muscles gently tightened when sitting in a chair. If you make this a habit, it will soon become second nature to you. The end result will be a stomach area that is toned and much stronger.

Don’t Forget About Nutrition

Of course, there’s no way to achieved toned abs if you are eating the wrong foods. Get into the habit of eating a healthy diet—fresh veggies, fruit, whole grains, unprocessed foods—so that you can manage your weight and feed your muscles. If you have put on a little extra weight, work on shedding those extra pounds while performing the above stomach exercises on a daily basis. All it takes is time and dedication, and you will be on your way to achieving the toned stomach you’ve always wanted.
