Great Veg Movie Characters.

3 Oct

I get quite a kick out of how vegetarians are portrayed in movies, it is usually in a great way that brings a smile to my face.  I was thinking about my favorite vegetarian/vegan movie characters ever so I complied this list. Let me know who I am missing!!!

– ‘Jonfen’  aka Jonathan, played by Elijah Wood in the movie ‘Everything Is Illuminated’. The scene where he tells them he is vegetarian with the potato and the Russian woman, it is just too classic.

– Elle and Bruiser Woods, played by Reese Witherspoon in ‘Legally Blonde 1 and 2’. Not only is Elle down with both animals and fitness, she also introduces herself and Bruiser as ‘Gemini Vegetarians.’ Being that I am also one, this line seals the deal.

– Gwen, played by Deborah Rush in ‘The Good Girl’. ‘I am 10 years older than you and have twice your energy. That’s because I don’t eat meat and I don’t eat dairy.’ That about sums it up 🙂

– Hannah, played by Michelle Monaghan in ‘Maid Of Honor’. She orders vegetarian dumplings at the Chinese restaurant then scolds then store clerk for selling baby alligator wallets. You go girl.

– Peggy, played by Molly Shannon in ‘Year Of The Dog’. Sure there is another vegan in this film but it’s Peggy’s transition to vegan that really changes her life. Plus she makes vegan cupcakes for the people at her office and anything remotely vegan cupcake related, wins.

– Ian Miller, played by John Corbette in ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’. Anyone with relatives hailing from ‘the old country’ knows first hand how it is to tell them you are vegetarian. Lol.

– Lucy Kelson, played by Sandra Bullock in ‘2 Weeks Notice’. Not only is she an environmentally concerned, non-for profit attorney, she also appears to be vegetarian. She coins a kebob a ‘Flesh Popsicle’ and orders vegetarian from the Chinese restaurant.

– Smoochy, played by Edward Norton in ‘Death To Smoochy’. Smoochy is a hard core veg head and health food nut. Even the songs he sings for the kids are about not eating ‘refined sugars’ and junk food.

– Shiloh, played by David Spade in ‘Grandma’s Boy’. A super hilarious camo by David Spade as the veganwaiter who takes offense to people making fun of veganism. That’s right Shiloh, defend your honor.
