Please Help New Jersey’s Horses.

15 Sep

I know that most of you reading this blog are not from New Jersey and I know deep down inside that most of you are saying ‘THANK GOODNESS.’ ‘BETTER YOU THAN ME’ and ‘HELL NO I AM NOT FROM JERSEY’. So if we can redirect our hate towards this state for one minute and help out our equine friends, that would be rad. Sure NJ gets super bad rap cuz all the rest of the world sees is Jersey Shore (trash), Real Housewives of New Jersey (UBER trash), Jerseylicious (you gotta be kidding me). Add to that all the bad press we get for being violent (Newark and Camden, thanks), dirty (Superfund sites galore) and obnoxious (we are not all like that) and you have a recipe for disaster. In actuality yes, parts of Jersey are super hood, super dirty and yes a lot of people here are super rude but once you get past that nonsense, New Jersey is a mind blowingly beautiful state full of horses. Yes you read that last word right, NJ is full of horses. I actually grew up in ‘horse country’ so this bill that has landed on Governor Chris Christie’s lap is very important to me and many of my friends here in New Jersey.

NJ Bill A2023 has been passed through legislation already where is was approved, now all we need is Mr. Christie to sign it. This bill will effectively end horse slaughter for human consumption here in NJ. It will also ban the sale of horse meat and parts as well as banning the transport of live horses for slaughter purposes. This is an awesome bill that covers all the bases, there are no loop holes to get through, this bill sounds like it protects the horses through and through. The USA does not actually slaughter horses for human consumption but they are sent to Canada and Mexico where the slaughters are legally allowed.

This bill is imperative at this time in this economy. With so many people going belly up, they are being forced to sell their horses at auctions when in actuality these horses are healthy and in great condition and they should be adopted to rescue groups or placed on farms where people have room. Something like 92% of all the horses that go to slaughter are in good condition, that is just straight up WRONG. So please help us out here in Jersey by supporting this bill. You can contact Governor Chris Christie at 1-866-692-7270 and tell him to sign the bill and save the horses. Mr. Christie himself lives in Mendham, smack in the middle of the most beautiful part of NJ, full of horses. Now we must apply the pressure for him to do the right thing.
