FDA Approves A Pill Offering Minimal Weight Loss And Maxium Side Effects.

28 Jun

Ugh. I just had to vent about this because it is 2012 and we as a society are still stuck on this ‘magic diet in a pill’ nonsense. So apparently the FDA approved a new diet pill, Belviq, that promises ‘long term weight loss’. Studies show that the weight loss is minimal but the side effects are not, the weight loss is actually soooo minimal that it just meets the minimal needs of the FDA’s already pathetically low standards. The medical field is super stoked over this because not only are they going to make a fortune off of people’s lack of knowledge they are also getting to release the first ‘long term’ weight loss pill in over a decade. All others in the recent past have been shelved due to awesome side effects like suicidal thoughts, depression and digestive side effects. Guess dealing with all that mess is easier than eating plants and exercising?

Regardless of how much you need to lose, diet pills are NEVER the answer. They are nothing more than bullshit in a bottle. These companies don’t care about you or your health, they just want your money. Then once this pill ‘fails’ you they will be there to catch you with the next ‘magic pill/drink or diet’. The only way to long-term weight loss is a long-term life style change. This means stop eating animal products and get moving, yes it truly is THAT SIMPLE. Did you know that just by going veg you will lose 8-10 pounds per year without exercise? Stop letting these big drug companies steal your money, your health and your life. Take control of your own health, you own your body, do right by it 🙂

I was fuming on the way to work this morning when I heard this story on NPR! One of the guys they interviewed actually had the audacity to say that “we’ve tried diet and exercise for decades and it hasn’t worked. There is an obesity rate that has a become a medical epidemic.” (Don’t quote me exactly on that, but it’s close). Seriously? How hard have some of thse people tried? What about portioin control in restaurants? What about putting the spotlight on whole food rather than fast food? What about bringing PE back to school and offering fresh vegetables rather than french fries in cafeterias? I could go on and on. It’s so disappointing to me that this is where the FDA is putting their energy, rather than properly labeling foods and even bath and beauty products that are toxic to people’s bodies, hindering their ability to function properly. I could go on and on. And for what? To lose 5-8% of their body weight? That’s 5-8 pounds for someone 100 pounds overweight, not nearly the impact that changing their lifestyle would surly have, and all at a gamble to their health, because the side effects of this drug are sure to come to light at some point.

      Amen sister!!!
I was appalled when I was reading about it, it is such nonsense and the side effects can be DEADLY. People don’t want to work at anything anymore, they want it all now and this has spilled over into how we eat and care for ourselves. I don’t understand why people reach for these false promises. I know people who have lost 100 pounds without these gimmicks, it can be done. My mom lost 80lbs just by eating better, no exercise!!! Don’t even get me started on how they feed kids and take PE out of schools, that makes my blood BOIL.
It is starting to make me mad cuz the tables have turned, now if you are not part of the ‘obesity epidemic’ you are the ‘odd man out’. I was grocery shopping last week and I had to leave the store, the condition the people were in just made me borderline depressed. Everyone was obese, forget overweight and no one could even walk. It was like being stuck in a bad movie around a bunch of people who are literally dying in front of your eyes. And there I was, all 120 lbs of me, size 2 getting started at like I had leprosy.
We can only blame big business and fast food for so much, we as a society need to take responsibility for the mess we have made of our health and bodies. Until then the FDA and drug companies will keep LAUGHING TO THE BANK as our health care costs continue to soar.

We already know that Phentermine also poses some undesirable side effects and weight loss effects are only for the short term. Now with the addition of Topiramate to form Qnexa it may still only be for short term use as well as additional possible side effects stemming from Topiramate as well.

One thing I’d like to touch upon is that weightloss system fast can be carried out by the appropriate diet and exercise. An individual’s size not merely affects the look, but also the overall quality of life. Self-esteem, major depression, health risks, and physical ability are afflicted in fat gain. It is possible to do everything right and at the same time having a gain. Should this happen, a condition may be the perpetrator. While a lot food and not enough body exercise are usually the culprit, common health conditions and popular prescriptions may greatly help to increase size. Many thanks for your post in this article.

I mastered more a new challenge on this weight reduction issue. 1 issue is a good nutrition is tremendously vital any time dieting. A tremendous reduction in fast foods, sugary foods, fried foods, sugary foods, pork, and bright flour products may perhaps be necessary. Having wastes unwanted organisms, and poisons may prevent desired goals for losing belly fat. While selected drugs temporarily solve the condition, the bad side effects are certainly not worth it, and in addition they never give more than a momentary solution. It is just a known fact that 95% of fad diet plans fail. Thanks for sharing your notions on this weblog.
