Fix Your Face: The Kanolin Clay Edition.

Kanolin Mining.

Kanolin clay is a life saver to those with oily skin. The foundation of many clay mask’s, Kanolin is a white clay that is readily found in North and South Carolina, as well as England and Australia. Otherwise known as ‘China Clay’, Kanolin is praised for its ability to balance the skins sebum activity. If you don’t know what sebum is here is my simple, non-scientific definition…it is this oily/waxy stuff that seeps out of your pores in turn creating oily skin, oily hair and even blackheads in some cases.

Kanolin is the most gentle of the clays and has a low iron and mineral content making it the perfect mask for people with sensitive skin. This very absorbent clay is not only found in facial masks but in almost very type of cosmetic we know from powders to deodorants and soaps. Kanolin works by drawing out the impurities from the skin while managing to leave the naturally occurring oils in the skin balanced, not stripped. On top of this Kanolin also cleanses, exfoliates and stimulates circulation.

I can personally confess my love for Kanolin over and over again. I am a clay mask junkie and kanolin does it for me. Between the pollution here in Jersey and the pollution across the river in NY, add my skins insanely high oil production and at times, my face can and does look like a disaster if I do not use a mask on the regular. I find that using a kanolin based mask is the best way to keep my oily skin at bay and the production of cystic acne from starting. Your face feels so much better after a clay mask plus your moisturizing products will blend in much smoother and soak in more quickly once that dead layer of skin is gone and the impurities have been drawn out. Kanolin can be found in most off the shelf face masks, Queen Helene, Freeman Beauty and St. Ives all make cruelty-free, animal by-product free kanolin based masks. I have used them all, am currently using a steady rotation of them all and they all deliver as promised. Click the links below to peep the scene… Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask. Freeman Beauty Mint Lemon Mask. Freeman Beauty Chocolate Strawberry Mask. St. Ives Timeless Skin Mineral Clay Firming Mask.
