10 Best Cities For Vegetarian Travelers:

1- London, England. London was voted PETA’s most vegetarian friendly city in the world so it comes as no surprise that it lands on this list. London is a front runner in the veg food scene with tons of restaurants to choose from, veg take-out options and even full veg boutique produce stores.

2- Singapore. Since tofu is a diet staple in Singapore it is easy for veg heads to get their protein in while vacationing there. A large Southern Indian population also brings tons of vegetarian Indian restaurants to this island country.

3- San Francisco, California. Some say that San Fran started the veg movement here in the USA back in the 1960’s. You can argue that all you want but you cannot argue that San Fran is an amazing city to find any and everything in the vegan/vegetarian food categories.

4- Taipei, Taiwan. You are in luck if you visit Taipei because there are literally hundreds of vegetarian restaurants to eat at in this city. Keep an eye out for the swastikas, that is the symbol for Buddhist or Taoist vegetarian food. Swastikas in Taipei=Good food.

5- Portland, Oregon. Portland is a city known for it’s interest in healthy and sustainable living so having it on this list is a natural. They have tons of veg restaurants, stores, bakeries including some fair trade eats and food stores.

6- New York, NY. It is easy to be veg in this city and with it’s diverse population of people and cultures you can get any cuisine you fancy in veg form. From vegan fast food to vegan soft serve ice cream, NYC has it all.

7- Chiang Ming, Thailand. This city located in Northern Thailand is home to an eclectic mix of cultures they combine to make their delicious vegetarian staples. To identify vegetarian restaurants look for yellow banners bearing a single character. ‘Jay’ means vegetarian.

9- Jerusalem, Israel. Kosher is the key for vegetarians visiting this city. Jerusalem is home to many ‘milk based’ kosher vegetarian restaurants. This means no animal oils, meats, fats are served and your food, utensils and the kitchen it is cooked in, have never been exposed to meat.

Most veg heads in Indian are down with dairy but they do not eat eggs, meat, fish. You can easily find vegetarian food options any and everywhere you go in this city. Mmmm … Looks like I better start traveling!

It’s worth it for the food alone πŸ˜‰ My trips LITERALLY revolve around what I am eating, where I am eating it and when I am eating it.
So far San Fran has been the best place from my eating point of view. Utterly ridiculous. Toronto is no slouch either. And guess I can’t knock NYC, I think I just take it for granted since it is my ‘front yard’ for lack of better terms.

That’s great. I totally agree with SF and NYC, but I’m surprised at London. Though the indian food there is great, all I remember is a fried veggie burger wrapped in newspaper. Don’t get me wrong, I love a little grease as much as the next gal and was thankful I didn’t have to eat fish, but it wasn’t my fav.

Funny you say that about London cuz that is all we ever hear!!!
      I was shocked too.

I also recommend Istanbul, Turkey. Or anywhere in Turkey for that matter. Super veggie-friendly country! And one of my absolute favourite places that I have travelled.

I live in London but am originally from Sydney and it is SO much easier to be veggie here in the UK! Even the traditional pubs offer more than a veggie burger 99% of the time.

I want to go to Turkey SO BAD, I kind of figured it would be a super veg friendly place plus it looks like one of the most beautiful places EVER!!!
