White everything has been all but banned from everyone’s diet these days. People will not go near white bread (with due reason) and white potatoes are looked at as the Anti-Christ (without due reason). But the thing is that there are some white foods, including potatoes that you SHOULD be eating. Here is the scoop…

– Eating White For Stronger Bones.

When people think of strong bones they instantly think of calcium and cows milk. The problem with that is most of the calcium you get from cows milk is not absorbed into our bones as well as say, the calcium from leafy green veggies and legumes. Surprisingly enough, leeks, are a great veggie to turn to when it comes to strengthening your bones. The reason why leeks kick butt and build bones is cuz they are packed with naturally occurring fiber called inulin. Inulin is a plant fiber that has been shown to help us absorb about 1/3 more calcium then we do without its presence. The best way to ensure you are getting all the benefits leeks have to offer is to eat them with a calcium rich food like greens, tofu or legumes.

– Eating White For A Happier Heart.

Without a healthy heart our bodies are useless. It is that simple, so take care of your heart, exercise, eat well and be sure white potatoes are part of what you are eating. That’s right eat white potatoes. Why? Because they are good for you. I am not saying to slice and deep fry them, baking them will do just fine. White potatoes are an amazing source of vitamin B6 which is a vitamin our hearts love. B6 as been shown to help ward off heart disease by helping to keep our bodies levels of the amino acid homocysteine, in check. Just one medium-sized baked potato offers up almost 25% of your recommended B6 intake.

– Eat White For Better Teeth.

Everyone wants nice teeth. From bleaching to braces, teeth are something we seem to go the extra mile for. Well for vanity reasons at least 😉 Sure a mouthful of veneers and fake teeth can look great but how about a mouthful of the healthy real things? In order to keep our teeth in check we must prevent cavities. Brush, floss and eat white onions. That’s right, white onions actually help to prevent cavities from forming on our teeth because they contain sulfur. Sulfur itself is a powerful antibiotic and it also contains quercetin which is an anti-inflammatory agent. Together they can kill the all different types of bacteria in the mouth, includes the ones which lead to tooth decay. To get the most bang for your buck, eat the onions raw.

    Calcium plays an important part in our diets, it is essential for the formation and maintenance of strong bones and teeth. 99% of calcium in our body is found in our teeth and skeleton with 1% found in the blood serum. Our bones are constantly being broken down and reformed and the calcium we take in helps prevent an excessive loss of calcium from our bones.
