Grapefruit is either something you love or you hate from what I gather. I never really meet too many people who sit on the middle of the fence when it comes to this citrus wonder. It’s no wonder people followed and still do, ‘The Grapefruit Diet’ because even though it is not a ‘good idea’ per say, grapefruit is really good for you.

Known for their sourness, grapefruits are also known for their ridiculous fiber content. They contain a whopping 12 GRAMS OF FIBER per one whole grapefruit. The suggested serving of grapefruit is half of a fruit but why not just eat the whole fruit? It only has 120 calories and gives you about 200% of your daily Vitamin C needs. Grapefruit also has 2 grams of protein and offers you 20% of your daily recommended Vitamin A intake. Like tomatoes, grapefruits are also packed with the powerful antioxidant Lycopene which helps lower ones cholesterol. The coolest thing I found out about grapefruits have to be that they contain a massive amount of Spermidine which plays a major role in the aging process. Spermidine has been shown to significantly increase the lifespan of certain animals and it also decreased the major markings of aging. It sounds like grapefruits maybe part of the ‘Fountain Of Youth.’

So needless to say the grapefruit is more than just a great fruit. This is why you should be eating them as often as you can. And since it ‘Tis The Season To Be Citrus’ you have no excuse 😉 If you are not into raw grapefruit, try cutting one in half, drizzling it with honey or agave and broil it for a few minutes. You have a tasty, sweet healthy treat that you may find easier to enjoy then your typical grapefruit halved with sugar.

    I always knew grapefruit was really good for you but I had no idea it has so much fiber!

      Me either until last Winter when I looked at the nutrition facts on the bag of grapefruits I bought. This year I checked again cuz I thought I was going crazy but I am not. It’s true, there are 12 grams of fiber in those suckers. Crazy 🙂
