$5 Felines: November 26th Thru December 3rd.

15 Nov

The title of this Best Friends supported movement makes me a bit sad but at the same time hopefully it will help get some cats out of shelters and rescue groups so more can be saved. I know LOTS of people HATE cats with a passion, I was always indifferent because all the cats I knew did their own thing and never bothered anyone. The opposite of all the dogs I ever knew lol. As I got older I really started to value the independence that cats have, they are a great pet for busy people or for people who are older and shut in their homes. Cats require minimal effort, they do not gorge themselves on food like dogs do so you can leave food out and they will ration it. They also don’t need to be walked so if you have a handicap or just cringe at the idea of having to walk a dog 3-4 times a day then I ask you to consider a cat.

The best thing about cats is that they house train themselves. I brought a female feral kitten into my house of 3 Chihuahuas, 1 of which is a total jerk and she has gotten on with them just fine. She has never had an accident, she never hissed or bit me and she has never shown any aggression to my dogs. She is actually best friends with my tiniest Chihuahua who weighs in at 4lbs, they wrestle and she gives him HUGE bear hugs. I love watching them play and I love seeing them get along.

When it comes to these $5 Felines, there are rescues and shelters all over America who are participating. Any cat you adopt will be spayed or neutered and will have its first round of shots done. Last year over 300 cats were adopted during $5 Feline week and this year Best Friends hopes to adopt out even more. Every animal adopted brings them closer to their mission of  ‘No More Homeless Pets’.

Washington, D.C. – In its first super adoption event, DC Metro No More Homeless Pets placed 98 cats and dogs — and one guinea pig. Nearly 2,500 people came to a shopping complex to meet animals from 13 organizations, including animal control agencies from three counties. Lots more events are planned. Event sponsors included Best Friends Animal Society, Fairfax Corner and PETsMART Charities, as well as 16 local businesses.
