Today’s produce isles are nothing like they were back in the day. You now have 12 different types of apples to choose from, random hybrids of apricots and plums not to mention star fruit and guavas. Anything you fancy is at your finger tips and yes sometimes it comes with a (gmo) price. Since there are no laws regulating how gmo’s go about life on the shelves each of us has to do our own detective work. Sounds a lot harder than it is, no ‘Gadget Mobile’ is necessary
The average person can easily identify how their food was grown via the produce sticker. Every produce item has a sticker on it to not only help the cashier at check out but to help you know what kind of food you are eating. Is it Organic? Gmo? Conventional? This can be easily identified, no sweat, there will either be 4 or 5 numbers on the sticker and this is what they mean…
- If a particular piece of produce has 4 numbers on its produce sticker then that piece of food was grown in a conventional manner.
- If a particular piece of produce has 5 numbers on its produce sticker starting with a 9 then that piece of food was grown organically.
- If a particular piece of produce has 5 numbers on its produce sticker starting with an 8 then that piece of food had been genetically modified.
Simple enough, right…
